How to Install Interior Doors
Installation Instructions
Remove the packaging and take the following installation instructions:
Door Installation must be done after new floor completely install and finished. We prefer your walls painted as well.
DO NOT PUT LARGE FASTENERS THROUGH THE FINISHED SURFACES This is only meant to be a guide of the methods that we have found to have the best results in a regular wood frame building. You should always have a professional do your installation. Improper installation may damage your materials and void your warranty.
Our complete prehung door package comes with the frame, jamb extension and moldings. The jamb extension must be trimmed on site to your exact wall thickness. The goal is to have about one-half-inch of airspace between the bottom of the door and the top of the flooring used, more if the opening will be used for ventilation. The door jambs don’t have to touch the subfloor in carpeted situations, but they must be in contact with hardwood flooring, ceramic tile, or other smooth finish.
INSTALLATION #A
-
Step 1. Start by trimming the door frame to the desired length for the gap between the door and floor. Our prehung doors are done professionally in factory settings and are always perfectly square so the gap between the door and the jamb stays consistent. You have to cut the lengths of the jambs correctly so the gap at the top of the door is correct. If one leg of the jamb is too long , you will end up with the door slab rubbing against the top jamb. It is really important for the door jambs to be installed plumb. Use a four-foot level to see how plumb the rough opening is that is on the hinge-side of the door. Remove the hinges from the door frame and install the hinge side of the door attaching with screws underneath where the hinges will be later. Use wood shims with the level and tack the shims against the jamb until the e level is perfectly plumb. You can install the door back on its frame. Make sure that the top of the frame leaver proper gapping for the door
-
Step 2. Please buy 1 pack TRIM SCREWS 6 x 2-1/4” (6-8 screws for each door)
-
Step 3. Please remove door stopper gasket from frame as show below:
-
Step 4. After level and shim door frames please insert 3 above trim screws on each side after removing door stopper gasket. Starting approximately 6" from the top of the frame, nail the hinge side in place first, through the jamb and shim ensuring that the frame is square and plumb. Place a second nail 6" from the bottom and a third in the middle of the frame.
-
Step 5. Mark in telescopic trim places for hinges and make cut before insertion into frame.
-
Step 6. Install 3 additional planks and L shape casing.
INSTALLATION #B
Remove the hinges from the door frame and install the hinge side of the door attaching with screws underneath where the hinges will be later. Use wood shims with the level and tack the shims against the jamb until th e level is perfectly plumb. You can install the door back on its frame. Make sure that the top of the frame leaver proper gapping for the door. Now you can start installing the non hinge side of the frame. We recommend doing this using straps used to keep water heater in place cut to proper lights attached to the back of the frame using 3/4″ screws then wrapping the strap around the framing of the building. Make sure this side of the frame is positioned perfectly for the door. You can now attach the jamb extension and moldings. We recommend using door and window non-expanding foam (while door close), liquid nails type of glue and 23 gauge finishing nails.
